Recently, I’ve been in the process of cleaning out my office, and I have a lot of presentations that have been printed out on one side of the page. It got my wheels turning on trying to find things that I can do with already been printed paper other than throw it in the recycle bin. Here are some of the ideas:
- Use as scratch paper – A number of people often do this, and I do this as well. I also like to use this to sketch ideas for jewelry and clothing designs.
- Use as practice paper for origami – I’ve always been interested in origami, but since I don’t have a lot of experience with it, I don’t want to mess up with nice paper. Already been printed paper comes in handy to let me practice with origami. I use the site www.origami-instructions.com to get project ideas.
- Use as a painting canvas – I have to admit – I’m not much of a painter, but since my mother is more of a painter than I am, I was wondering if this paper can be a cheaper canvas alternative. While a number of people said “NO”, Angela Neal wrote an article for eHow on how to use computer paper as a painting canvas.
- Use for confetti – If you have a hole punch, a shredder, or a cutter, this would be a fun idea to channel in the inner Rip Taylor and make confetti from the paper. It’s much cheaper than the stuff at Party City. For those of you who don’t know who Rip Taylor is, he’s this absolutely crazy comedian who’s known for throwing confetti. Search YouTube for Rip Taylor to see some of his routines.
- Make interesting art designs – I found some really interesting art projects on YouTube for using printer paper. Here are three that I found:
- Make paper beads – Since I have a store that specializes in artisan jewelry (CHEAP PLUG ALERT: http://www.twoswansshoppe.com), this intrigued me. The daughter of a good friend of mine worked with an organization that worked with African groups to make fair-trade crafts and teach entrepreneurial skills, and one of the crafts that the groups made was paper beads. I’ve been interested to try this one myself, so I found two tutorials on making paper beads.
I’m interested in hearing your ideas – please feel free to post.
